Juventus are edging closer to a move for Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie, according to reports in Italy.
The United States international made 28 appearances for Die Knappen last season as David Wagner’s side secured a disappointing 12th placed finish in the Bundesliga.
Interest in McKennie has been rife this summer, with learning recently that as many as five Premier League clubs – Southampton, Everton, Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Ham – were all in pursuit of the tough tackling midfielder.
Now however, it seems that Serie A champions Juventus have stormed into the lead in the race for his services. Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Old Lady are close to signing the 21-year-old, with a €3m loan move with an €18m option to buy likely to be complete soon.
Although McKennie is highly rated, off-field financial uncertainty seems to have forced Schlake into the sale and the player is now poised to link up with Andrea Pirlo’s squad soon.
