Real Madrid have agreed to loan Reinier to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund for the 2020/21 season.
The 18-year-old Brazilian has been tipped as a future star of European football since his £30m move to Madrid from Flamengo in January, whom he had scored six goals and notched two assists for in 14 league matches.
According to Goal, a deal has been agreed that will see Reinier spend the next year at Signal Iduna Park, while Dortmund will also have the option to extend the deal by 12 months. There will no option to make the move permanent, however.
Dortmund boss Lucien Favre confirmed the imminent arrival of Madrid’s latest starlet after watching his team defeat Austrian Wien in a pre-season friendly at the weekend.
“We want to loan him. It’s in the pipeline. From what I’ve seen, he’s very good offensively and a very, very good finisher,” Favre said.
Real Madrid’s forward line struggled for consistency in front of goal last season – despite lifting another La Liga crown – and success may not have been forthcoming without the goals of Karim Benzema. But keeping Reinier at the Santiago Bernabeu wasn’t an option for Zinedine Zidane as La Liga rules prevent Spanish sides from having more than three non-EU players registered at one time.
With compatriots Rodrygo, Eder Militao and Vinicius Junior currently occupying those spots – although the latter is set to receive an EU passport next year – Reinier has had to settle for a role in Madrid’s Castilla setup thus far.
Dortmund, meanwhile, have built a reputation for being one of the best clubs at nurturing young talent in recent seasons – and Madrid know all about it. They loaned right-back Achraf Hakimi to the former Champions League winners for the last two years before selling him to Inter this summer for £36m.
Los Blancos will be hoping Reinier progresses at Westfalenstadion like many young players have done before him at Dortmund – Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Christian Pulisic included.
