Paul Pogba will not leave Manchester United under any circumstances this summer, according to the player’s agent Mino Raiola.

The France star had looked as good as gone in the early part of last season, with frequent criticisms of his attitude, commitment and fitness record compounding rumours of a move to Juventus or Real Madrid.

A transfer failed to arise in January, however, and with the COVID-19 pandemic curtailing spending plans at elite clubs all over Europe, it has begun to seem more and more likely that he will remain at Old Trafford, at least for the 2020/21 season.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italy, the notorious Raiola – who counts Pogba in his stable of star clients – says he will be going nowhere for the time being, and could even extend his contract in the foreseeable future.

“Pogba is key player for Man Utd, they’ve an important project and he’s 100% included,” the agent said.

“Man Utd will not accept any bid on this summer to sell Pogba. We’re going to speak about a new contract soon, no stress…”

Despite being limited by injury to just seven appearances pre-lockdown, Pogba returned like a man possessed to help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team turn their fortunes around after the enforced break.

Joining January signing Bruno Fernandes in an impressive midfield, United won six of their nine Premier League matches to qualify for next season’s Champions League, while they also made the Europa League semi-finals, where they lost to eventual champions Sevilla.

United’s qualification for Europe’s elite competition in 2020/21 has likely eased his desire to leave, while three cup semi-finals and a top four finish will have convinced him that he can achieve his lofty ambitions without having to leave Manchester.

The Red Devils were due to kick off their season against Burnley on 12 September, but that has been postponed to ensure a 30-day break following the conclusion of their 2019/20 campaign. They will start their season at home to Crystal Palace a week later.
