Premier League rivals Arsenal and Tottenham have been linked with a move for soon-to-be free agent Jerome Boateng, as the German defender’s contract renewal talks with Bayern Munich went chilly.
The World Cup winner has won an spectacular eight Bundesliga titles, 5 German Cups and two Champions Leagues since making the change from Manchester to Munich in 2011.
It appears that, much like Thiago Alcantara (who left for Liverpool this summer time) and David Alaba (who is set to give up the club within the close to future) Boateng is eager for a new challenge outside Munich, along with his present contract set to expire in 2021.
Sports Witness relay BILD reporter Christian Falk’s feedback this week that Boateng is refusing to negotiate an extension, while Mourinho is said to be ‘watching the developments’ and could possibly be eager on a move.
Arsenal have also been name-checked within the race to sign Boateng, although the Gunners lately added Gabriel and William Saliba to their defensive ranks and will not be as brief on centre-back choices.
However, David Luiz is now into the last few months of his contract after being granted a one-year extension to see him by way of till the summer time of 2021.
Mourinho, much like Arteta, appears properly stocked within the centre-back division withToby Alderweireld, Davison Sanchez, Eric Dier and lately signed teen Joe Rodon at his disposal. Yet, the prospect to sign a player of Boateng’s calibre could possibly be too good an alternative to cross up.
Mourinho, famously, tried to sign Boateng two years in the past throughout his time at Old Trafford but was rejected by the ex-Manchester City man who was eager to stay with the German champions. Boateng also turned down Paris St Germain last year who might also be within the hunt for a centre back after dropping the skilled Thiago Silva to Chelsea.
Boateng can be free to talk about a pre-contract settlement with non-Bundesliga clubs as early as January, if his contract state of affairs shouldn’t be resolved before.
